Beachfields Regeneration
Beachfields sits in a prime location close to the town centre, waterfront and Sheerness train station. The current Beachfields site consists of a dated health, wellbeing and leisure facility, a sand pit play area, paddling pool and green space.
Proposed
The existing health, wellbeing and leisure centre will be reconfigured and extended, providing improved facilities for residents and visitor. Changes include:
- New activities such as adventure play and Tag Active
- Café facilities
- Relocated and expanded GP facilities on the ground floor
Outdoor attractions, such as Adventure Golf and an outdoor gym will be created. The remodelled exterior will provide a more welcoming and accessible entrances to the centre.
Progress
We’ve been working with Alliance Leisure to deliver the improvements to the Beachfield site.
The designs were put together with the services using the building, to make sure these meet the needs of people in Sheerness.
Planning permission for the work was granted in January, and the main construction work are well underway.
The new adventure golf course, Sheerness Shipwreck Adventure Golf, which has been designed with input from local people and school students is now open to the public. A large replica of the SS Montgomery is the centrepiece of the exciting new course which features 18 holes celebrating the unique heritage and landmarks of the island.
To make sure services can still be provided during the works, the GP services have relocated to their sister site at Minster Hospital, and Sheppey Matters can be found at their shop on Broadway. The gym facilities have been temporarily relocated to the sports hall whilst the works are taking place and a new temporary entrance can be found along the tree lined road adjacent to tennis courts.
